Washing dog feet

With the week of rain we had last week, my yard is a complete muddy mess. After spending hours vacuuming little mud pebbles a few times a day, I’d hit my limit. It was time for the dogs to deal with their own mud.

I got a low mixing tub from the local home center and stuck in on the porch.

Day 1, Session 1:  Shaped all 3 dogs into the tub without water.

Day 2, Session 2: Shaped Paisley & Shira into the tub with water. Rox said “No WAY!”

Day 3, Session 1: Can’t keep Paisley out of the water. Shira goes in when prompted. Started target training Rox into the bucket. No water touches yet.

Day 3, Session 2: Can’t keep Paisley and Shira out of the water. Rox put left front foot completely underwater in the bucket.

Day 4, Session 1: Can’t keep Paisley and Shira from both being in the water at the same time. Rox put 1 back and 1 front foot completely underwater in the bucket.

Day 4, Session 2: Started adding “Rinse” as the cue for Paisley and Shira to get into the bucket. Rox timidly walked completely through the bucket.

Day 5, Session 1: Continuing to add “Rinse” as cue for Paisley and Shira. Began adding “Up” cue to go up a step immediately after washing feet. Rox walked completely through the bucket 3 times without timidity.

Check out Roxie’s progress using Target Training to walk through the bucket.
